Are you a pasta lover? This pink sauce recipe coated with tangy tomatoes and heavy cream is a treat for all of you. It’s simple and super easy to make. It just takes 20 minutes to cook. This creamy and savory sauce can be cooked with any type of pasta.

I love to cook it with rigatoni or penne because of its texture and shape. It coats the sauce heavily from all sides and makes the dish amazingly delicious.

What is meant by Pink Sauce Recipe ?

As the name shows, it is somehow pink or orange in shade because of the combination of tomatoes and creamy sauce. The red color of tomatoes mixed with white sauce results in a creamy, light pink hue.

It is the recipe inspired by Mama D’s in Newport Beach, California. The combination of flavors in the pink sauce recipe is worth mentioning, and it is a perfect balance of tangy and creamy flavors that work harmoniously together. (Just like ranchero Sauce).

Pasta: All kinds of pasta will work with it, but I used penne because of its hollow texture. The sauce coated heavily outside and inside the pasta, which tasted delightful.

Tomato passata: It’s not like tomato paste. It’s a type of tomato puree that you can easily find in the grocery store. It is made from strained tomatoes, which gives the sauce a zesty flavor and reddish color.

Heavy cream: It is mixed with a small amount of milk, adding creaminess and richness to the sauce. You can also use milk as a substitute to avoid adding cream.

Olive oil or butter: It moistened the pasta and was used to sauté onions and garlic. It adds depth of flavor to the sauce.

Onion and garlic: You can use fresh paste or powdered form. These aromatic ingredients provide a savory base to the pink sauce recipe.

Spices: I add seasonings like dried basil, red chili, salt and pepper and a pinch of sugar. These are all essential spices that add season to the sauce.

Shredded cheese: Here, I add mozzarella shredded cheese on top. You can also use Parmesan or Romano cheese, which gives a tangy flavor and slight saltiness.

How to serve pink sauce pasta?

Pink Sauce Recipe

Here are some ideas on what to serve alongside your pasta with pink sauce:

Garlic bread is a traditional accompaniment to pasta because its flavor pairs well with the pink sauce and adds texture to the dish.

Salad: a light, crisp salad perfectly complements the creamy pasta. One excellent choice is a salad of mixed greens with a basic vinaigrette.

Protein: Serve the pink sauce pasta with grilled chicken, prawns or sausage for a protein-rich main dish. These meats are a great way to mix up your dish and complement the sauce’s flavors. (Also Try Rasta Pasta Recipe)

Additional tips for pink sauce pasta recipe

  • Cook pasta until it’s al dente, which means it’s tender but still has a bit of a bite; don’t let it get mushy. Overcooked pasta become mushy and lose its shape in the sauce.
  • Adjust the level of richness and cheesiness to your preference: You can tailor the richness to your taste by adjusting the cream and cheese content. Add more heavy cream to make the sauce creamier, and to make it cheesier, add more shredded cheese.
  • Good ingredients are essential for a tasty sauce, so skimp. For optimal results, cook with freshly minced garlic, onions, top-notch tomato passata, and freshly shredded cheese.
  • The sauce needs room to simmer and thicken. Therefore a large skillet or pot is recommended for this recipe.
  • Be sure to save some of the pasta cooking water before draining the noodles. Make the sauce thicker and creamier by adding this starchy water.

Pink Sauce pasta recipe variations

Creamy Pink Pasta: The sauce can be made creamier by adding more heavy cream or swapping out the tomato passata for tomato cream sauce. Adding cream cheese or mascarpone cheese can make the sauce lighter and more decadent.

Cheesy Pink Pasta: More shredded cheese or a different kind of cheese, such as Gruyere or Fontina, can be added to the sauce if you want your pasta with a higher cheese content. Before serving, add more cheese on top of the pasta if you like.

Spicy Pink Pasta: Put some red pepper flakes or diced jalapenos into the sauce if you like things spicy. The hot tomato passata helps to make sauce more spicier.

Pink Vegan Pasta: Pink spaghetti can be made using cashew cream or coconut cream if you are vegan or choose a plant-based diet. Use cheese as a substituted with vegan cheese or left out entirely.

How to Store Pink Sauce Pasta?

Cool the pink sauce pasta at room temperature before transfering to an airtight container for storage. It has a three-day shelf life in the fridge.

Reheat the pasta by adding a splash of milk or cream and cooking it over low heat, occasionally stirring so the sauce doesn’t separate.

What is the difference between Rosa sauce and Vodka sauce?

Both Rosa sauce and vodka sauce are pinkish cream sauces made from tomatoes. The critical distinction between the two is that vodka is used in vodka sauce, which helps bring out the tomato flavor.

However, Rosa sauce is often made with cream, tomato sauce, and Parmesan cheese and omits vodka. While both sauces have a mellow tomato creaminess, adding vodka gives vodka sauce a more complex flavor profile.
